Pittsburgh-area teacher charged with sexting teens

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Authorities are accusing a suburban Pittsburgh teacher with sending sexually explicit photos of herself to her high school students.

Jennifer Sowa Smith, 29, surrendered to authorities to face charges Tuesday stemming from allegedly steamy exchanges she had with five male students.

Court documents say the Steel Valley High School teacher sent nude pictures of herself to the teens, two of whom were under 16. Smith is also accused of propositioning at least two of the teens.

Smith, of West Mifflin, was arraigned on charges including corruption of minors and solicitation and released on $25,000 unsecured bail. Defense attorney David Shrager says it’s premature for him to discuss possible defense strategies.
