A city man was released from Trumbull County Jail on Monday morning after posting $25,000 bond, charged with shooting a 37-year-old Warren man in the head Saturday morning.
Robert L. McCurdy, 41, of Oak Knoll Avenue Northeast pleaded innocent to felonious assault in Warren Municipal Court.
The victim, Darius E. Talley Jr. of West Park Avenue Southwest, suffered a gunshot wound to the head but the injuries are not life-threatening, Warren police said.
The shooting occurred at 6:45 a.m. on Tod Avenue Southwest near Palmyra Road.
Talley went to ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital on his own, police said.
This is not the first time the two men have confronted each other, police added.
Talley appeared in Warren Municipal Court on Thursday to answer to a misdemeanor assault charge and felony weapons charge related to a May 9 incident in which Talley was accused of assaulting McCurdy.
McCurdy told police he was on the porch of a home on Second Street Southwest when Talley approached the porch on foot, took a broom and struck McCurdy with it.
Talley also punched McCurdy in the face and threatened to kill McCurdy and his family, a Warren police report said. McCurdy told police Talley also showed McCurdy a handgun tucked into Talley’s waistband.
Trumbull County judges have sentenced Talley to six-month prison terms twice since 1996 — both times on drug charges. According to court records, McCurdy has had no felony criminal convictions in Trumbull County.
