Michael Vick's dog likes new life

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Hector the pit bull prefers his new life.

He’s one of 49 dogs rescued from National Football League superstar Michael Vick’s dogfighting compound in 2007.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports today that Hector will mingle with people for a charitable cause on Thursday at Emiliano’s Mexican Restaurant in Ross.

People can pose for photos with the dog at $4 each; $3.50 of that will be donated to Hello Bully, a Pittsburgh-based organization that aims to promote and educate people about responsible pit bull ownership, and The Western Pennsylvania Humane Society. The event will run from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Hector is now a certified therapy dog who visits schools to teach children about dog safety and to dispel stereotypes about his breed.
