Youngstown girl dies after being rescued from Trumbull pool Sunday

AKRON — Unique Moore, 5, of Roxbury Avenue, on Youngstown’s South Side, died at 9:32 a.m. today at Akron Children’s Hospital after rescuers pulled her unconscious from the swimming pool at Willow Lake Park campground in Champion Township Sunday.

The girl was flown by helicopter Sunday from St. Joseph Health Center in Warren to Akron Children’s Hospital.

Hospital officials notified the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office this morning that the girl had died, said Gary Guenther, chief investigator at the medical examiner’s office. An autopsy will be performed Tuesday, Guenther said.

Pool lifeguards rescued the girl at about 4:30 p.m. and began to perform CPR until paramedics arrived and continued treatment.

The accident happened in the campground’s 650-by-170-foot pool, featured in the Guiness Book of Records as the world’s largest chlorinated, freshwater, concrete bottom swimming pool.

The pool ranges in depth from 2 to 14 feet. Willow lake is on Mahoning Avenue (state route 45) at the northern end of the township.
