SENIOR SIDELIGHTS


Austintown Senior Center, 100 Westchester Drive, has planned the following, including new programs that began in June: Monday, outdoor walking group at 9 a.m., painting/drawing at 9:30, bingo at 10 and lunch at 11:30; Tuesday, line dancing at 10 a.m., lunch at 11:30 and bingo at noon; Wednesday, walking group at 9 a.m., bingo at 10, lunch at 11:30 and Wii practice at noon; Thursday, yoga at 9:30 a.m., Senior Shape Up at 10:30, lunch at 11:30 and Father’s Day party and bingo at noon; and Friday, walking group at 9 a.m., bingo and a discussion group at 10, lunch at 11:30 and Wii practice at noon. Lordstown SCOPE, in Lordstown Elementary School, 1776 Salt Springs Road, will sponsor the following: Monday, Wii bowling and activities at 10 a.m. and lunch of eggs, bacon, toast and fruit at noon; Tuesday, Wii bowling and activities at 10 a.m. and noon lunch of a hamburger, chips and salad; Wednesday, wood carvers from 10 a.m. to noon, lunch of spaghetti, meatballs, salad and bread, and yoga at 1 p.m.; Thursday, 10 a.m. bridge or Wii bowling, lunch of pork chops, potatoes and a veggie, and evening bridge game at 7; Friday, 10 a.m. “Pain Relief” program with Brian Jones, who says he helps relieve pain for up to a week in one session without medicine using a rubber-band technique, 25-cent bingo at 11, noon lunch of meatloaf, gravy, mashed potatoes, and a veggie, and free movie night with popcorn from 7 to 9 p.m.; and Saturday, 5 to 7 p.m. “Strawberry Delight. Reservation deadline is June 13 for Father’s Day steak dinner at 5 p.m. The cost is $8, and seating is limited. Lunch reservations are not required but are appreciated by calling 330-824-2173. Pinochle players are invited to form a group. A three-month trial membership will be available until the end of June.

Senior Independence Senior Center of Mahoning County, 1110 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, has planned the following: Monday, men’s and women’s needlecraft club at 8:30 a.m. and bridge at 1 p.m.; Tuesday, oil painting at 10 a.m., computer class at 10 and noon, bridge for beginners at 10:30, exercises at noon and Digital Club at 2 p.m.; Wednesday, watercolor class at 10 a.m., tap class at noon and 500 cards at 1 p.m.; Thursday, Watch Our Weight and Woodcarvers at 9 a.m., exercises at noon, line dancing at 1 p.m. and beginner line dancing at 2; and Friday, cards at 11 a.m. Special events include the following: Thursday, Mountaineer trip, and free hearing test at the center from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at the center.
