Valley students earn Wolves Club scholarships
The Wolves Club of Youngstown, Den VI, named eight local high school students as recipients of scholarship grants to Youngstown State University for 2011 during its annual scholarship banquet May 11 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Hall in Youngstown.
Prior to dinner, those in attendance were entertained by opera singers from the Youngstown State University Dana School of Music — Allan Mosher and his wife, Jennifer, who sang Fratelli d’Italia (Italian National Anthem). Tony Vincenzo Cenname, also from Dana, sang the “Star Spangled Banner.” The accompanist was Jerry Rezanka.
Local students awarded the four-year scholarships were Sarah Bable, Megan Chambers (Boardman), Kaitlin Congemi (Mooney), Amanda Ditman, Marissa Frame, Drew Saluga (Boardman), Dominic Sikora (Poland) and Amanda Tonoli.
Additionally, the Wolves Club awarded $3,000 to the St. Elizabeth School of Nursing. This year’s donation will be matched by the Humility of Mary Health Partners Development Foundation.
The Wolves Club, Den VI, is the Mahoning County Chapter of a national fraternal organization of Italian-American business professionals dedicated to serving the community by supporting education.
The Wolves Club provides scholarships to local students by conducting various fund raising events throughout the year.
The funding for the 2011 YSU scholarships is derived from the success of their fund raising events from 2010 which are matched by the Youngstown State University Foundation. This year, together with YSU, the Wolves will award $46,000 in scholarship funding.
