District-wide sports physicals offered
Austintown Local Schools’ district-wide sports physicals will be offered to student-athletes grades seven through twelve for the upcoming school year June 9 at Fitch High School from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The cost is $15. Checks payable to Fitch Health Center.
Softball team tops GlenOak
The Austintown Fitch High School girls softball team defeated Canton GlenOak 14-4 on May 24.
Megan Carney drove in four runs, while Alex Corradi and Tori Wise each added two RBI. Alana Callahan and Mercedes Pratt each drove in a run.
Wise struck out 10 to earn the pitching victory.
Golf benefit is July 16 at Lakeside
Ball Busters Sports Bar is hosting its sixth annual Benefit Golf Outing July 16 at Lakeside Golf Course.
The outing will be a three-person scramble and include a continental breakfast, lunch and a steak dinner at the establishment with live music by the Gary Markasky Project and others. Prizes will be awarded for hole events and a 50/50 raffle and raffle prizes will also be available.
The cost to participate is $225 per team and registration begins at the course at 7 a.m. Individuals who want to participate will be matched with players at that time.
This year’s fundraiser recipient is Billy Bowden, who is battling throat cancer. He has undergone surgery and is receiving chemotherapy and radiation treatments.
The Sunshine Golf Outing began in 2006 when people came together to help Dave “Sunshine” Palmer battle cancer. Since then, more than $400,000 has been raised to help other recipients.
Coordinators for the event are also looking for monetary or gift donations for prize drawings and hole or program sponsors.
