There are many jobs in which people feel under-appreciated, but not one teacher at Hilltop Elementary School will tell you they feel that way, especially on the school’s annual Teacher Appreciation Day May 17.
PTO volunteer organizers Jessica Russell, Joleen Lewis and Chris Russo organized a luncheon for the teachers.
“Our teachers are fabulous. We should celebrate Teacher Appreciation Day every day. It is a nice way to say thank-you to them. And we so appreciate our parents. They are wonderful for doing this for us,” said Cathy Mowry, Hilltop Elementary School principal.
PTO provided the main dishes for the luncheon and numerous PTO members donated side dishes, salads, desserts and beverages. Russell made the teachers flower sugar cookies as thank-you gift and favor from the luncheon.
The tables in the library were turned into springtime gardens with purple tablecloths, vases of flowers as centerpieces and little candies circling the vases. As an added bonus, if a teacher chose a plate with a pink flower on the bottom of it, he or she won a centerpiece.
“While we are being appreciated today especially, in turn we really appreciate the parents who help us all year long and we truly appreciate their children,” said Tom Scurich, Hilltop Elementary music teacher.
