‘The Rose Tattoo’ opens at playhouse
New Castle, Pa.
“The Rose Tattoo” opens tonight at New Castle Playhouse, 212 E. Long Ave. The show, directed by Lester Malizia, will run for nine performances over the next three weekends. Friday and Saturday evening performances begin at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday matinee is at 2 p.m. For reservations, call 724-654-3437.
The drama, written by Tennessee Williams, is set in an Italian-American neighborhood, where truck driver Rosario Delle Rose is killed while smuggling. His wife, Serafina, retreats from the world after her husband’s death, but her fragile emotional existence is shattered when she discovers that he had been carrying on with another woman. Serafina reawakens to life’s joys when she meets another truck driver who has the same sunny openness her husband possessed.
River museum open for season
Wellsville
The Wellsville River Museum, 1003 Riverside Ave., opens Sunday for another season of open-house tours. It will be open each Sunday from 1 to 4:30 p.m.
Admission is free, but donations are accepted. The museum is owned and operated by the Wellsville Historical Society. Parking is available at the adjacent Central United Methodist Church, 1000 Main St. Only the first floor is handicapped-accessible. Special tours can be arranged by calling 330-532-1018.
Spaces available at Ursuline sale
CANFIELD
The Ursuline Center, 4280 Shields Road, will have its annual outdoor Car Trunk and Treasure Sale and an indoor estate sale of antiques, furniture and more July 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Two selling spaces are $20. There also will be a book and cookbook sale, and Ursuline Center volunteer chefs will sell finger foods. All proceeds benefit the ministries of the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown.
