POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Liberty and Girard:

HUBBARD

May 27

Menacing: A Hillcrest Avenue woman reported threats against her daughter.

Assault: A worker for an East Liberty Street business reported a fight between two women, one of whom was knocked to the ground.

May 28

Possible theft of services: An employee of a South Main Street company complained that someone was illegally bringing garbage to the business’s trash bin.

Recovered property: Medications were found that had been reported stolen from a mailbox in the 800 block of Saul Drive.

May 29

Arrest: Brookfield police handed Tavares Norris, 28, of 926 Market Ave., Farrell, Pa., to Hubbard authorities. Norris was wanted by the Hubbard Mayor’s Court on a charge of failing to appear on one count of driving under suspension.

May 31

Drugs: Officers received a report of a suspected marijuana plant in a Hillview Drive apartment.

LIBERTY

May 26

Domestic violence: Police charged 19-year-old Jade N. Scofield, 1721 Naylor-Lloyd Road, Girard, with the crime after her mother alleged Scofield had thrown and struck her head with a perfume bottle. The mother suffered swelling.

Criminal damaging: A driver struck and caused $500 in damage to a landscaping wall in the 4200 block of Belmont Avenue.

Theft: Three women were seen on a security camera stealing cellphones from Walmart, 200 Goldie Road. The theft came to $540.

Arrest: Dana M. Muth, 25, of 7141 N. Palmyra Road, Canfield, was picked up at the Mahoning County jail on a warrant from the township accusing her of failing to appear in court.

Breaking and entering: Someone kicked in the front door to a vacant trailer in the 30 block of Marla Lane and removed copper pipes.

Auto theft: A 1996 Pontiac Bonneville was stolen in the 10 block of Holly Drive.

Theft: Duaine D. McDowell, 29, of 1624 Virginia Ave., Youngstown, and Terra L. Hewlett, 30, of 612 Wirt St., Youngstown, were charged in the theft of $14 worth of merchandise from Dollar General in the Liberty Plaza. McDowell also was wanted on five warrants from Youngstown.

Aggravated menacing: A Monticello Boulevard woman reported finding a paper bag containing various written threats taped to her door.

Counterfeit: A fake $10 bill was discovered at Giant Eagle, 4700 Belmont Ave.

May 27

Theft: A man found out someone had used his personal information to buy $170 worth of merchandise from Walmart.

Aggravated menacing: A Green Acres Drive woman reported that, despite a protection order against him, a man followed her vehicle on Belmont Avenue, then pointed a handgun at her from his car before driving away.

May 28

Counterfeit: A phony $20 bill was passed at a BP Unimart station, 2703 Belmont Ave.

May 30

Recovered property: An 18-speed girl’s bicycle was found abandoned in a park off Church Hill Road.

Disrupting public services: Someone cut cable lines in the 6500 block of Belmont Avenue and knocked out service to customers in the vicinity.

Burglary: Occurred in the 800 block of Tibbetts-Wick Road after a rear door had been kicked in. Roughly $15,000 worth of jewelry and a purse were missing.

Possible weapon: The new owner of a residence in the 1300 block of Virginia Trail reported finding in the attic what he thought was a grenade, though police said it appeared to be a mortar shell. The Youngstown Police Department’s bomb squad was to send a technician to recover the item, a report showed.

May 31

Assault: A woman told police her 13-year-old son had been jumped and assaulted while playing basketball near Green Acres Drive and North Gate Road. The boy had bumps and bruises.

Arrest: Police took custody of 29-year-old Tanisha L. Cheirs, 11 Thornton Ave., Youngstown, who was wanted on a probation-violation charge.

Menacing: Tricia Hinton, 41, of 6 Scott Lane, Girard, faced a menacing charge after a disturbance in which several people said Hinton had threatened to use a claw hammer to smash nearby vehicles’ windows.

Arrest: The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force handed 29-year-old Michael Norberg, 547 Fourth St., Struthers, to township police. Norberg was accused of failing to appear for a violation-of-probation hearing.

Arrest: Authorities took custody of Gerald W. Hardaway, 30, who was at the Mahoning County Jail. Hardaway, of 318 Ridge Ave., Youngstown, was wanted on a probation-violation charge.

June 1

Burglary: Two BB guns and a firearm were taken from a home in the 1400 block of Keefer Road; someone had entered through a window.

GIRARD

May 29

Burglary: To a residence in the 400 block of Washington Avenue. Stolen were a leather coat and numerous prescription medications.

Theft: A $300 computer was removed from an apartment in the 600 block of Church Hill Road.

Auto theft: Officers investigating suspicious activity by a vehicle on East Second and South State streets charged 31-year-old Jerold B. Wiggins, 742 Cassius Ave., Youngstown, and Tremayne L. Collins, 35, of 555 E. Florida Ave., Youngstown, with receiving stolen property after determining the car they were in had been stolen in Campbell.

May 30

Criminal damaging: Someone tossed a rock and damaged two windows at a home in the 100 block of Morris Avenue. The estimate was $750.

Criminal mischief: A piece of blacktop was thrown at a residence in the 100 block of Crumlin Avenue, striking a portion of vinyl siding.

Theft: An $80 dirt bike was taken in the 30 block of Front Street.

Domestic violence: A 15-year-old Girard girl faced charges of domestic violence and disorderly conduct after she was accused of threatening to kill certain family members as they slept. The teen also screamed at police, they said.

May 31

Bad check: An official with the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation investigating the owners of a former North State Street business reported the owners failed to contact the agency to make good on a $22,000 transaction that had been deemed invalid because of nonsufficient funds.

June 1

Assaults: Three people were in a fight at a North Main Street business. One reported having been struck three times in the face.

Aggravated menacing: A Trumbull Avenue woman reported getting threatening text messages.

Theft: A $100 bicycle was stolen in the 100 block of Crumlin Avenue.
