Thornton’s daughter guilty of manslaughter

ORLANDO, Fla.

The estranged daughter of actor Billy Bob Thornton has been found guilty in Florida of aggravated manslaughter of a child. The Orange County State Attorney’s Office says the verdict against 32-year-old Amanda Brumfield was returned Friday. She faced murder charges in the 2008 death of her best friend’s 1-year-old daughter, Olivia Madison Garcia.

She was found not guilty on first-degree murder and aggravated child-abuse charges. Brumfield claimed the girl hit her head after falling while trying to climb out of a playpen.

IBM’s Watson named Webby ‘person’ of year

NEW YORK

The “Jeopardy”-playing IBM computer Watson has been named person of the year by the Webby Awards. The Webbys, which honor Internet achievement, announced honorees Thursday. The recently disbanded rock group LCD Soundsystem was chosen artist of the year.

The 15th annual Webby Awards ceremony is June 13, hosted by Lisa Kudrow.

‘Camp Rock’ actor recovers after crash

LOS ANGELES

“Camp Rock 2” actor Matthew “Mdot” Finley is recovering from a motorcycle accident. Finley’s manager, Eric Ortner, said the singer-actor had surgery Wednesday on his leg at UCLA Medical Center after he lost control of his motorcycle and plummeted off a cliff last Thursday.

Ortner said that Finley suffered multiple injuries to his face, head and legs and was expected to be in the hospital for several weeks.
