McDonald's Tayala wins state shot put title

McDonald senior Matthias Tayala won a Division III state title in the shot put at Friday's state track meet at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

Tayala's winning throw of 64 feet, 8 inches was more than six feet better than his previous-best and puts him in good position to win two state titles. Tayala is the overwhelming favorite to win today's discus competition.

Tayala is the second Valley athlete to win a state title so far today. LaBrae senior Andre Elkins claimed the Division II long jump title earlier Friday.
