Beaver killed in Pa. tests positive for rabies

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania wildlife officials say a beaver captured near the scene of beaver attacks in Philadelphia has tested positive for the rabies virus.

The Game Commission reported the results today on the beaver blamed for attacking a couple on Wednesday and a child on Thursday on or near Pennypack Creek in the city’s northeastern section.

Authorities are warning people to be on the alert for animals acting unusually in that area.

A rabid beaver was found in the White Clay Creek area of Chester County in April.

Pennsylvania’s most recent rabies fatality was a 12-year-old Lycoming County boy who died in 1984.
