Mahoning treasurer hopefuls at forum tonight

CAMPBELL

A candidate forum for those seeking appointment as Mahoning County treasurer will be at 7 p.m. today in the Roosevelt Park community center.

The forum, which is open to the public, will be moderated by Lowellville Mayor James Iudiciani and is sponsored by the 255-member Mahoning County Democratic Club, which was formed by the recent merger of the North County Democrats and the Democrats of the 17th and 6th Districts.

The county’s Democratic precinct committee members will select someone on Monday to complete the term of Lisa A. Antonini, who abruptly resigned as treasurer on May 16, immediately after the U.S. Attorney filed a criminal charge of honest services mail fraud against her.

Those seeking the treasurer’s post are Daniel R. Yemma, interim treasurer; Roxanne DeNiro, a 29-year employee of the treasurer’s office; Ken Carano, a former state representative; and Paul J. Canter, a certified public accountant with the state auditor’s office. Although the primary and general election for the next term as treasurer will be next year, the current term runs until September 2013.
