SALEM

The Quaker City Weekend Cruise 2011 is ready to roll in three weeks.

Steve Andres, the city’s director of public service and safety, has it down to an art when it comes to the city’s annual car show and cruise.

The events will run June 22-26.

Andres said one new change “will be a lot more hats and T-shirts for the partygoers.”

Jim Bonfert of Salem has helped before with the city’s plans. This year, he said, the city has ordered 500 dash plaques for the people who will be driving in the parade June 25.

The city plans to have some events at the municipal parking lot on Pershing Street.

Other performers will play on the stage on Broadway Avenue.

Dan Bing, longtime area disc jockey and former Columbiana County commissioner, will be playing throughout the weekend as will fellow disc jockey “Big Rick,” whose real name is Rick Matyi.

Gary Shrieve will be performing as Elvis Presley at the stage on Broadway Avenue.

Rick “Rusty” Hill will be playing tunes from the late 1960s to the early ’70s.

Disc jockey Crazy Dave, also known as Dave Pounds, will wrap up the event at the Howells & Baird Stage on Pershing Street on Sunday.

Mayor Jerry Wolford said he has a 3-foot-tall trophy for the grand prize and 19 smaller trophies for various vehicles.

As usual, the Quaker City Motorsports Park, 10225 W. South Range Road, will be the site of the 6th Steel Valley Supernationals June 24-26.

One of the promoters of the Supernationals is Corey Ward, who said the hours are from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. June 24-25 and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 26.

“People can ride all day for $20,” Ward said. He added, “Everything is going great. We put on a great show. It’s good for everyone,” he said.
