Ohio couple gets 15 years to life for starved baby
CINCINNATI (AP) — A judge has sentenced an Ohio couple to 15 years to life in prison for starving to death their infant daughter who weighed more at birth than when she died 10 weeks later..
Judge Nadine Allen today sentenced 30-year-old Gary West and 28-year-old Jill Hull to the maximum sentence for murdering Rachel West.
They were convicted April 29. A coroner says the baby died of extreme malnutrition due to neglect.
The couple’s attorneys did not immediately return messages seeking comment.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports the baby weighed 5 pounds, 13 ounces when she died Nov. 26, 2008, four ounces less than her birth weight and about half the average weight of a 10-week-old baby.
Authorities say five cans of baby formula were in the home when she died.
