SENIOR CITIZENS


1418 Auxiliary Seniors are planning to meet at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Brownstone Court. John Texter will preside. Cancellations must be made no later than Monday by calling Sandy Redeske at 330-755-5192. Birthdays and anniversaries will be acknowledged, and cards and bingo will be played. Ajax Magnethermic Retirees will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Station Square, 4250 Belmont Ave. Guests are welcome.

Canfield Chapter 3104 of AARP will meet at 1 p.m. Monday at Canfield Presbyterian Church for a covered dish picnic. Members whose last names begin with A through H are asked to take casseroles and I through Z, salads. Everyone should take their own table service. Desserts, coffee, tea, cold drinks and condiments will be provided. Blood pressure screenings will be available from noon to 12:45 p.m. After dinner Jan Bethel will show pictures of the mystery trip to Shipshewana in May. Members also are welcome to stay for a Power Point presentation, “The Amish — Up Close and Personal.” The Sept. 15 mystery trip is full. Reservations are being taken for an Oct. 12 trip to Station Square in Erie, Pa., to see “A Salute to the Crooners.” The trip will include stops at a winery and the Pashke Mum Farm. A four-day, three-night trip is planned Nov. 15-18 to Asheville, N.C., and Pidgeon Forge, Tenn., to see the Biltmore Estates Christmas, several shows and a Dollywood Christmas. Freetimers, retirees of Youngstown State University, will have a monthly breakfast at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Denny’s restaurant on Route 224 in Boardman. All retirees and their friends are welcome.

Lowellville Senior Citizens will have a picnic lunch and meeting at noon Friday at Gianna’s Catering in Lowellville. Reservations are needed; call Janet Davanzo at 330-793-3176. Members are asked to take a donation for a gift basket for a sick or homebound member. New members are welcome; membership is open to anyone 55 or over. Martha Lupse 50-Plus Card and Game Club will meet from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Room 106 at Poland United Methodist Church. Bridge, 500, chess and checkers will be played, and Ruby Farkas will give the devotions. Members are reminded to take a sack lunch; coffee and tea will be provided. SOAR 27-2 and 27-6, Steelworkers Retirees of Local Unions 1330 and 1331 will meet at 1 p.m. Monday at the Austintown Eagles Club, 1655 S. Raccoon Road. Refreshments will be served. New members are welcome. There will be no meeting in September.

St. Nicholas Senior Citizens will have a luncheon meeting at 11 a.m. Aug. 9 in Great Hall with Laverne Cox presiding. Reservations are required by Wednesday and can be made by sending a check for $8 per person, payable to the St. Nicholas Seniors, to Lora Opsitnik, 138 Iroquois St., Struthers, OH 44471.
