YOUNGSTOWN

Senior citizens, families, residents and members of the faith-based community in the Mahoning Valley will gather Monday to tell Congress they want the details ironed out around the debt ceiling.

At 11:30 a.m., leaders will gather on Central Square in downtown Youngstown and on Courthouse Square in downtown Warren with ironing boards to show legislators what needs to be done to secure essential retirement securities.

Specifically, the group will demand legislators iron out their differences and put the focus on the real issue of jobs.

The events are being organized by the Mahoning Valley Organizing Collaborative.

Participants will argue that Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid are essential to the survival of many Americans and should not be used as tokens in the debt-ceiling debate.

The MVOC is urging community residents to attend to share their comments or concerns that will be sent to local U.S. representatives.

Monday’s events will kick off a series of actions to take place throughout the Valley over the next few weeks, according to the MVOC.
