A group that tracks law- enforcement deaths says six Ohio officers died in the first half of 2011 from injuries suffered in the line of duty, amid an increase in such deaths nationwide.
The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund reports 98 officer deaths nationwide in that period, up from 86 in 2010. The preliminary report says 40 officers were killed by gunfire. Ohio had six deaths, including a former Columbus officer whose January death was linked to a 1979 shooting that paralyzed him.
