Thunder in the park

McDonald Fraternal Order of Police will present Thunder in the Park 2011 today at Woodland Park, corner of Fifth and Penn avenues.

Registration the day of the show will be $8. No alcohol allowed.

Featured will be food and soda, picnic tables, playground, kiddie pool and cornhole. DJ Crazy Dave will provide music, and there will be 100 goodie bags, 100 dash plaques, door prizes, a 50-50 raffle and T-shirts.

The show will be from 4 to 8 p.m.; registration, 2 to 5 p.m.; judging, 5 to 7 p.m.; and awards will be presented at 7:30 p.m.

Sunfest

The Mill Creek MetroParks Sunfest is today. The festivities begin at 8:30 a.m. in the Wick Recreation Area with a putting contest. A late-morning hike begins at 11 a.m.; a sand-sculpture contest is from 1 to 4 p.m.; and from 5 to 8:30 p.m. The Sensations will perform at Judge Morley Pavilion.

Riding for kids

Riding With Purpose, a new day camp that also offers horse-back riding lessons, has opened at the 80-acre Simplicity Farms, 49248 McClure Road, East Palestine.

The day camp is available for those age 10 to 18 and offers riding, basic horsemanship, camp fires and Bible study.

Lessons are available to those of all ages and skill levels and include special lessons on horsemanship and equine wellness.

Charity bikers

The fourth annual charity motorcycle Run for Hospice, in memory of Dave Grimes, will be today.

Registration begins at 10 a.m. at Ice House Inn, 5516 Webb Road, Austintown. The first bike will leave at noon. There will be a basket auction, raffle, food and music.

Tickets are $15 ($25 for doubles), and the public and nonbikers are welcome.
