Local dancers earn national honors

Dancers from Stage Left Dance and Theater Arts Academy of Canfield recently returned from a national dance competition where they took home first place overall in two divisions, both small group and large groups.

They competed against other dance teams from around the country in a week-long stay in Wildwood, N.J. The girls took home top honors for a small group lyrical routine, “Calling all Angels,” and a large group musical theater routine, “Reached for the Gun/Chicago.”

Stage Left dancers have attended multiple regional dance competitions and rehearsals this summer to get ready for the finals. Stage Left director Kimberly Lisowski also took home a national choreographers award.

“I knew the talent in the area was amazing when I opened Stage Left in 2008. This week, this group of girls showed up and delivered outstanding performances across the board. I am thrilled for them,” said Lisowski.

The 2011 team includes Katelyn Lisowski, Tori Timmann, Nicole Sherb, Gabby Kendall, Alyssa Pappas, Sophia D’Alesio, Hannah Abrigg, Lexi Weeden, Annie Porterfield, Kiana Lyon, and Kennedy Lisowski.

The girls will be taking a break before the 2012 team auditions begin Aug. 2 and 4.

Stage Left Dance and Theater Arts Academy is located in Canfield and offers classes in all ages and areas of dance. It offers musical theater and acting classes in addition to dance.
