Indians trade for Rockies ace Jiminez

The Cleveland Indians have acquired ace pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez from the Colorado Rockies for four prospects, although one — pitching prospect Drew Pomeranz — cannot become official until next month.

The Rockies will immediately receive pitchers Alex White and Joe Gardner, and first baseman-outfielder Matt McBride. Pomeranz cannot be traded until next month because he was drafted last year, and Major League Baseball rules say a player cannot be traded until one year into his professional career.

McBride played for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in 2006. As a catcher, he batted .272 with four home runs and 31 RBIs in 51 games.

The Indians also traded infielder Orlando Cabrera to the San Francisco Giants for minor-league outfielder Thomas Neal.
