The fellowship of Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 505 Parkcliffe Ave., will honor the Rev. Dr. Lewis Macklin II during a dinner at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Everlife Worship Center, 474 Early Road.

The Rev. Dr. Macklin is known for his advocacy for children and their families. He champions My Father’s Child, which embraces responsible fatherhood practices among fathers living outside of the home.

Gathering to sing

Grace Church of the Nazarene, 5253 W. Webb Road, has promoted a musical project for the last few years that is the singing of “How Great Thou Art” on the first Sunday in August.

The church will again host a gathering of members and visitors to sing the hymn at 3 p.m. Aug. 7. Those who play instruments also are invited to accompany the singers. The church encourages other congregations to participate at Grace Church or at their own churches.

Grace Church will ring church bells starting at 2:30 p.m. and asks other churches to ring bells or carillons.

The church noted that singing has been an integral part of praising God, citing various Bible verses including “Sing unto God, Sing Praises to His Name” from Psalm 68:4.

The anniversary committee of Jerusalem Baptist Church, 2003 Wilson Ave., plans a musical program at 4 p.m. Sunday with choirs, male choruses, groups and soloists.

New pastor

Masury United Methodist Church, 1382 Broadway Ave., has announced the appointment of its new pastor, Raymond Ake, who also is lead pastor of the newly forming Living Waters Cluster of United Methodist churches (Brookfield, Coalburg, Hubbard and Masury).

His wife, Catherine Ake, is pastor of Vienna UMC.

Pastor Ake, a graduate of Ohio University, received a master of divinity degree from United Theological Seminary in Dayton. He serves the East Ohio Conference as a member of the New Church Start Team and Mahoning Valley District UMC Strategy Committee.

He previously served Henrietta UMC in the Firelands District. Pastor Ake was honored as Firelands District “pastor of the year” by the District Lay Speakers. He began the “farmer-to-farmer” ministry, which reconditions old farm equipment and transports it to the St. John’s River area of Liberia. There, the equipment is modernizing farming.

Gospel music

Rogers Assembly of God, 8251 Sprucevale Road, will host the North Eastern Ohio Gospel Music Revival at 5 p.m. next Saturday.

Featured performers include Coperhavers of Creston, Kim Stull Peters of East Liverpool, High Country from Millersburg, Glorybound of Negley and Sons of Liberty of Stanton, Ky.

A free-will offering will be taken.

The church youth group will sell food starting at 4 p.m.

Sons of Liberty will minister in song at the service at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 7.

Subdeacon George Mansour leads the talks on church history, ancient beliefs and other topics at 6 p.m. Wednesdays at St. Mark’s Antiochian Church, 3560 Logan Way.

Trips planned

Jesus “The Key” Ministry is sponsoring trips, and the proceeds send inner-city children to camp.

Ancient rituals

The Rev. Andrew Gromm, pastor of St.Michael Orthodox Church, 127 Steel St., conducts a weekly lesson at 6 p.m. Thursdays on ancient rituals of the church. The same lesson is offered at 4 p.m. Fridays.

Lessons will focus on the liturgy’s origins from the first to fourth centuries, but also beyond this era.

Father Gromm also preaches the Gospel and church history at noon Saturdays on WSOM- AM 600 on the show, “On Earth As In Heaven.
