YOUNGSTOWN

After a Friday that saw three South Side shootings, including one that killed a 17-year-old boy and injured two men, police were called to the 1700 block of Silliman Street on the city’s West Side at 2:02 a.m. Saturday for a rape and hammer attack of a 22-year-old woman and assault of two men.

A 22-year-old resident of the house said someone entered the home while he was sleeping, and he awoke to the barrel of a gun pointed at him.

The man said he was struck in the head several times when he told the intruder he didn’t have anything of value.

The woman and her boyfriend entered the house and found three black males with pistols and wearing latex gloves inside the home. They kept asking the woman where valuables were and ransacked the house.

The woman said she was struck several times with something, possibly a hammer, then was forced to take off her clothes and was raped.

The suspects poured cleaning chemicals on her, struck all three victims with a hammer and other objects, then left. A television and cash were taken. The television was recovered in the back yard.

The female was treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center for severe head trauma, rape trauma and cuts on the shoulder and upper back. The 22-year-old man was treated for head trauma.

Foley said the three shootings in one day and a rape early the next day was a lot of crime in one day.

“We haven’t had one of those [types of days] for a while,” he said.
