Cornersburg goes country for a cause

On June 25, Cornersburg went country for a good cause.
Cornersburg businesses hosted a Customer Appreciation Weekend June 24-26 and came together to provide food, fun and entertainment with a country flair. Cornersburg Baptist Church offered a cookout and music to the community and Belleria Pizza hosted pony rides and a petting zoo.
Cornersburg Dairy Queen kept its hoedown going all weekend with line dancing, mechanical bull rides, petting zoo and a yard sale throughout their business hours on June 25-26.
Cornersburg Dairy Queen owner Chrissy Smith could be found that weekend dressed in plaid with a cowboy hat atop her head. Although the event was fun, Smith had another goal in mind.
“My business is a proud member of the Cornersburg Business Association of Youngstown, which also forms an acronym, CBAY, that we use to explain what Cornersburg is all about — we’re part of Canfield, Boardman, Austintown and Youngstown. As business owners, we’re trying to build a cohesiveness and togetherness in our area, and beautify and protect Cornersburg.
“Eventually, we’d love to build street lamps, add flowers and erect a ‘Welcome to Cornersburg’ sign,” Smith explained.
Families stopped by the Dairy Queen store all weekend to enjoy free fun and enjoy the friendly atmosphere of the Cornersburg area. Smith welcomed “Penny the Pig,” a piggy bank fundraiser for Easter Seals, and guests from young to old donated money to the charity.
Sherri Santiago made the “Cornersburg goes Country” event a family affair and brought along her mom, Linda Komara, and her kids, Morgan Fobes and Jaden Santiago.
“The kids are having a blast and the ice cream is delicious. Cornersburg is definitely the place to be,” Sherri Santiago shared.
