Canfield little leaguers fall at state tournament

The Canfield Baseball Club’s 12-year-old team was eliminated from the State Little League Tournament in near Dayton last weekend.

The squad lost both games in the tournament, falling 13-6 to Mount Vernon July 23, then 6-5 to Wheelersburg on July 24.

In the elimination game against Wheelersburg, Canfield led 5-1. However, Wheelersburg got withing 5-4 with three runs in the fifth.

In the sixth, Wheelersburg loaded the bases and back-to-back singles scored two runs, including the game-winner.

Canfield team members were Zachary Bernat, Dominic Cooper, David Crawford, Jake Cummings, Sean Frisbie, Cody Holland, Anthony Joseph, Jake Kuchmaner, Dean Lauer, Seth Opladen, Kyle West and Mark Wittmann.

5K and Fun Walk set for Aug. 6 in Lowellville

Lowellville K-12 school is sponsoring a 5K race and Fun Walk Aug. 6.

The 5K starts at 9 a.m., while the Fun Walk begins at 9:15. Cost for the 5K is $17 for registration before Monday and $20 after. Dry-Fit T-shirts are included before the deadline and available while they last for later registration. Cost for the Fun Walk is $12 for adults and $8 for children under 10.

Try out for the CHS golf team

The Canfield High School boys golf team will host tryouts Monday and Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. at the Mill Creek Golf Course.

Glaciers baseball looking for players

The Ohio Glaciers, a national tournament baseball program, is holding tryouts for 2012 teams from 9U through 16U in August. The tryouts will be held at Glacier Field in Struthers.

The Glaciers have a history of nationally-ranked teams with professional instructors like Jack Kucek, a former Major League pitcher. The Glaciers manage both indoor and outdoor facilities, with teams practicing more than 100 hours a year. Players from across Ohio and Pennsylvania have played on Glacier’s teams.

Season tickets on sale for YSU football

Youngstown State football season tickets are on sale.

General admission seats are located in sections 1 and 7 of the west stands.

YSU plays six home games this fall with the opener on Sept. 10.
