Palomino World Series Qualifier
At Butler, Pa., Dave Sugar of the Youngstown Class B League led Cincinnati Storm Club 7-2 in a game suspended in the seventh inning. Eric Hess had four hits, including a double, for Sugar, while Alex Miklos reached base four times, once on a double, and three three runs. Cody Hearald and GJ Senchak both hit doubles, and Jason McPeek hit a triple and had two RBIs. In another game, Sam Pitzulo Homes of the Class B League lost to North Coast 4-3.
Canfield Youth Baseball
Canfield Red won a recent 8U baseball tournament at Lisbon. Members of the team were Tony Pannunzio, Mickey Velasquez, Vince Machuga, Josh Juliano, Sam Starr, Colin Burdette, Dan Gibson, Alex Smyczynski, Chris Smith, Drew Carrocce, Tyler Beck, Angelo DePalmo, Mike Pelini and Angelo Cestone. Coaches were Tony Pannunzio, Tom Velasquez, Andrew Smyczynski, Mark Beck, Duke Starr and Kevin Burdette.
Northeast Ohio Thunder
The Northeast Ohio Thunder, a 13U travel baseball team from the Mahoning Valley, finished runner-up at the Top Gun Classic at Kent State University. Members of the team were Cliff Phillips, Mike Soots, Vito Petrillo, Mike Notar, Garrett Mulrooney, Spencer Desalvo, Devin Curd, Gregg Dunham, Josh Fromel and Tyler Baird. The manager was Cliff Phillips.
Lordstown softball
The Lordstown Pee-Wee girls softball team, sponsored by Lordstown Speed Check, won the Warren Athletic Club 8U championship game. They finished the season with a record of 13-2. Members of the team were Julia Durig, Lexie Drewek, Lexie Ensign, Hannah Sim, Grace Dougherty, Emily Knox, Jacilyn Wilk, Desirae Ross, Logan Grunder, Lean Sunn and Lorelie Hamner. Sandi Drewek was the manager, with assistance from Penny Durig, Ed Wilk, Carrie Hudak and Ted Drewek.
