Say goodbye to Mayor Williams on Monday


YOUNGSTOWN — Outgoing Mayor Jay Williams will say goodbye to the city with a free event Monday at the Covelli Centre.

Monday is Williams’ official last day as mayor. He is resigning to become the executive director of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Recovery for Auto Communities and Workers, effective Aug. 8.

The “Thank You to the Community” event will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the city-owned facility. Williams will give his goodbye speech about 5:30 p.m.

Williams plans to express his gratitude to the community for his five and a half years as mayor at the event.

The event is free and open to the public.
