Hearing program

FARRELL/GREENVILLE, Pa.

The UPMC Horizon Medical Equipment Recycling Program and the UPMC Center for Audiology and Hearing Aids, in partnership with Quota International of Hermitage, Pa., is conducting a pilot hearing-loss-prevention program for high school band members at Hickory High School in Hermitage, Pa., and Greenville, Pa., High School during August.

The band members will be provided earplugs available through the Center for Audiology that are designed to not interfere with the sound of the music but significantly lower the intensity and impact on the ear. Musicians who are exposed to loud instruments may suffer hearing loss over time because of the decibel levels.

Job fair planned

Safe drivers course

Shepherd of the Valley is offering the AAA Safe Driving for Mature Operators course for drivers 60 and older Tuesday and Aug. 4 at Shepherd of the Valley-Poland, 310 W. Western Reserve Road, Poland, and Aug. 23 and 25 at Shepherd of the Valley-Howland, 4100 N. River Road NE, Howland. The state-certified classes run from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. each day. Workshop offered

NILES

Healthy U, a free six-week workshop for older people with long-term health challenges, is offered Fridays from July 29 through Sept. 2. The workshop, sponsored by Administration on Aging, National Council on Aging, the Ohio Department on Aging, the Ohio Department of Health and Area Agency on Aging 11, will provide information including how to deal with pain, fatigue and depression; be more physically active; eat healthier; talk with doctor and family about health issues; set personal goals, and relax and deal with stress. The workshop will be from 9:30 a.m. to noon at St. Joe’s at the Mall in Eastwood Mall. Registration is required; call 330-675-7807.
