POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Liberty and Girard:

HUBBARD

July 22

Theft: A West Liberty Street man discovered $400 missing from his account. In an unrelated situation, a Wheeler Avenue woman reported money had been taken from her account.

July 23

Harassment: An East Liberty Street woman reported receiving such calls and text messages.

Assault: A woman told police a man assaulted her in the 200 block of Raymond Drive.

Theft: The driver of a 1993 Honda vehicle left Hubbard Gas & Mini Mart, 175 Youngstown-Hubbard Road, without paying for gasoline.

July 24

Theft: A woman noticed her wallet missing at a North Main Street restaurant.

July 25

Menacing: A Hillview Drive female reported being the victim of cyber-bullying.

Attempted fraud: A Westview Avenue woman told authorities someone in Jamaica claiming she had won $2 million and a car asked the woman to first send 5 percent of the winnings so as not to have to pay taxes on the prizes. She recognized a scam and lost no money.

Arrest: Weathersfield police handed 26-year-old James L. Tingler Jr., 855 Woodland Ave., Hubbard, to township police. He was wanted on one misdemeanor count each of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, theft and child endangerment.

LIBERTY

July 21

Theft: A Logan Gate Road man who had ordered a textbook through the mail reported never having received it.

Arrest: David M. Lingenfelter, 36, of 289 Fourth Ave., Sharon, Pa., was taken into custody on a warrant from Hubbard Township after police stopped his vehicle on Gypsy Lane.

Theft/drugs: An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper brought 22-year-old Sasha M. King of Akron to Liberty police, who booked her on one count of theft. King also was charged with possession of marijuana when, authorities said, she admitted having a small quantity of suspected marijuana in her pants.

Arrest: Police picked up 38-year-old Melanie Anderson of Tulsa, Okla., who was wanted on a township warrant accusing her of failing to appear in court.

Drugs: A traffic stop on Logan Avenue led to 53-year-old Leonard Boone’s arrest. Boone, of 17 Benita Ave., Youngstown, faced two drug charges after police said they found a drug kit containing three syringes, a spoon with burn marks and a razor blade.

July 22

Drugs: A traffic stop on Sampson Drive resulted in the arrest of 54-year-old Robert H. Tinkham, 1301 Willowood Drive, Hubbard, on charges of trafficking in drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia when, police said, three suspected crack cocaine pipes and four bags of suspected crack were found.

Domestic violence: Police picked up 20-year-old Randy G. Kaigler, 147 Linden Ave., Warren, who surrendered at a Belmont Avenue fast-food restaurant and was charged with the crime after a family member alleged Kaigler had slapped her at least twice during an argument. The woman had swelling as well as a bloody nose and lip, a report showed.

Arrest: Shawn E. Perry, 29, of 938 Winona Ave., Youngstown, faced a criminal-trespassing charge after officers responded to a disturbance in the 4600 block of Belmont Avenue. Perry became belligerent and refused several times to leave, police said.

Assault: A Craig Lane man reported another person approached the accuser’s vehicle, grabbed his arm and tried to pull him from the car.

Assault: A Youngstown woman in the 800 block of Church Hill-Hubbard Road alleged her former boyfriend grabbed her neck and dragged the accuser from the residence. She had a torn shirt, a report said.

July 23

Arrest: Ross D. Deweese, 21, of 1485 County Line Road, Mineral Ridge, was taken into custody after police had pulled him over on state Route 193. Deweese was wanted on two warrants from Weathersfield Township.

Theft: A Detroit woman reported a $125 cellphone stolen from her room at an East Liberty Street motel.

July 24

Arrest: Weathersfield police handed Jason J. Thomas, 30, of 3715 Karen Drive, Mineral Ridge, to township authorities. Thomas was wanted on a theft warrant.

Theft: Tamara L. Brown, 42, of 160 W. Evergreen Ave., Youngstown, faced charges of theft and receiving stolen property after $50 worth of merchandise was stolen from Dollar General in the Liberty Plaza, and when police said she had items that had been taken from another discount store. Also arrested was 47-year-old John C. Houser Sr., 2704 Volney Road, Youngstown, who was wanted on an assault charge.

Theft: Earl S. Marlowe, 21, of 448 Lexington Ave., Youngstown, was charged with stealing a phone charger, hair products and other items from Walmart, 200 Goldie Road. Marlowe, who’s also a store employee, admitted having stolen between $300 and $400 worth of merchandise during the past year, a report said.

Arrest: Officers responding to an intoxicated person erratically driving a motorized cart at Walmart charged 48-year-old Paul F. Hartman of Denver with criminal trespassing, disorderly conduct while intoxicated and obstructing official business. Hartman refused to leave and identify himself, then had to be restrained, police said.

July 25

Burglary: Occurred in the 5700 block of Logan Arms Drive through a basement window. Items were tampered with, though nothing appeared to have been stolen.

Theft/criminal damaging: A $2,000 air-conditioning unit was removed from a piece of vacant property in the 2700 block of Merrill Avenue. A door frame was damaged at the residence.

Counterfeit: Two men unwittingly passed two fake $100 bills at Walmart, though neither was charged with any wrongdoing.

GIRARD

July 23

Criminal mischief: Someone broke three windows to a storage facility near West Liberty and State streets.

Burglary: To an apartment in the 900 block of North Highland Avenue, from which a 32-inch flat-screen TV was taken.

Identity fraud: An East Liberty Street woman discovered someone had charged $17 a month for three months to her credit card without authorization, apparently for a magazine subscription.

Harassment: An Ohio Avenue woman said a man sent her a text message threatening to kill her cats.

July 24

Criminal mischief: A man in the 400 block of Dearborn Avenue saw that someone had thrown rocks at his son’s vehicle, causing $1,000 in damage to its roof and trunk.

Theft: A Patricia Drive woman discovered boxes containing clothing, jewelry and other items were missing,

Theft: Three tires were removed from a carport in the 500 block of Park Avenue.

July 25

Theft: A woman reported her son’s $125 bicycle stolen on East Kline Street.

Theft/vandalism: About $400 worth of brass fittings was stolen from a water truck in the 30 block of North Ward Avenue. In addition, the truck radio had been smashed.

Theft of services: Someone in a black Jeep dumped roofing material without permission into a trash bin in the 500 block of Park Avenue.

Identity fraud: A West Liberty Street woman discovered someone had gained access and made five unauthorized cash advances to her credit-card account totaling $673.

Criminal mischief: A North Avenue woman noticed a key had been used to do about $200 in damage to her car’s driver’s side.

July 26

Attempted theft: An Ohio Avenue woman told police three boys tried to steal a trampoline from her yard.
