NM police look for sniper who killed cat on porch

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — New Mexico authorities say a sniper shot and killed a cat sitting on the front porch of a house in an Albuquerque neighborhood.

A city spokesman tells KRQE-TV the case has been turned over to animal welfare and the Albuquerque Police Department. The state veterinarian lab is working on extracting the bullet from the cat. The results will be passed along to Albuquerque police.

KOB-TV reports investigators will attempt to match the bullet to the gun and track down the shooter.

The cat sniper, if caught, could face felony charges that include extreme cruelty to animals.

The shooting happened late Monday night.
