Dog-adoption event

YOUNGSTOWN

An event, billed as a dog adopt-a-thon, will be from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Mahoning County Dog Pound, 589 Industrial Road. About 50 dogs will be available for adoption. The adoption fee is $42.50 per dog under age 3 months and $50 for dogs older than 3 months. For dogs that haven’t had a rabies shot and haven’t been spayed or neutered, an additional $80 is charged for those services. All fees must be paid in cash at the time of adoption. With the dog pound almost filled to capacity, the event is part of the pound’s effort to maximize adoptions and minimize the number of dogs that must be euthanized, said John Klenec, deputy dog warden.

Break-in probed

BOARDMAN

Police are investigating a break-in at Telegold, 8051 Market St., in which an unspecified amount of jewelry was taken.

Officers were called to the store about 11:50 p.m. Tuesday and found the door window smashed and several display cases broken, reports stated.

A police dog was able to track a scent but lost the track a few buildings away from Telegold, according to reports. Police said it is unknown exactly what was stolen or the total value, but the business owner said engagement rings and earrings are missing.

Gunfire reported

WARREN

Barely 12 hours after one man was shot in the calf in the Trumbull Homes apartments, police received a report of more gunfire there — this time involving a man who said his car got shot up.

An 18-year-old city man said he was inside his car in the 1900 block of Hazelwood Avenue Southeast at 2:50 p.m. Tuesday when multiple gunshots were fired at the car. No injuries were reported.

Many people fired the shots into the car’s front and back windows and doors, then ran east, the victim said. Five shell casings were recovered at the scene.

A 24-year-old man reported being shot in the calf at 2 a.m. Tuesday about a block away from the shooting.
