Catholic Relief Services needs donations for East African drought

Staff report

youngstown

Catholic Relief Services is seeking donations to support its work feeding and providing water to needy people in East Africa’s worst drought in more than half a century. CRS has been working in East Africa since 1960 providing emergency relief and long-term development assistance.

Monetary gifts may be sent to: Catholic Relief Services, Diocese of Youngstown, Attn/Note: East Africa Relief Fund. Mail to: Catholic Relief Services, Diocese of Youngstown, 144 W. Wood St., Youngstown, OH 44503. Donations also may be made at the Catholic Charities website: www.ccdoy.org.

The natural disaster is causing extreme hunger for more than 11 million people. Severe lack of rainfall has resulted in failed crops, critical shortages in food and water and livestock dying from dehydration and starvation. Further compounding the crisis are drastic increases in food prices.
