Body of man who jumped from boat found in Erie bay

ERIE, Pa. (AP) — U.S. Coast Guard and other rescue crews have found the body of a 27-year-old man who jumped from a sailboat in Erie’s Presque Isle Bay, apparently to take a swim.

The Coast Guard was called about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday after others on the boat said they saw the man struggling to stay afloat. Those on board also tried to throw the man a flotation ring before he disappeared into the water.

West Lake Fire Department Chief Kirk McCaslin said that divers found the man’s body just before midnight. Officials were not immediately releasing his name.

The incident marks the second apparent drowning in the bay in as many days.

Seven-year-old Aiden Nicoll disappeared in the surf off Beach 2 of Presque Isle State Park on Tuesday. His body was found along the shore Wednesday morning.
