Superman’s famous “S” insignia will grace specialty license plates in Ohio if a nonprofit society formed to honor the comic superhero’s creators has its way.

The license plate proposed by the Siegel and Shuster Society also would contain the legend “Ohio — Birthplace of Superman.”

Superman was created in Cleveland by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster when they were teenagers in the 1930s.

“Superman is an international icon, and everyone needs to know that it started right here,” society member Irving Fine told The Plain Dealer of Cleveland.
