Presentation on life, art of Van Gogh
YOUNGSTOWN
A program on the life and art of Vincent Van Gogh will begin at 2 p.m. Aug. 14 at Victorian Players Theater, 702 Mahoning Ave. Marlene Aron, a visiting lecturer, artist and van Gogh scholar, will lead the two-hour program. Admission is $10.
Aron taught art and art history at Youngstown State University and Penn State, as well as at colleges in California. She has been a visiting artist and guest lecturer at museums and colleges, including the Butler Institute of American Art and McDonough Museum.
An accomplished artist in her own right, she has had her works exhibited internationally in private and public collections, including at the Butler.
Aron’s presentation will include slides and photos of Van Gogh, and she will explore his deep religious convictions, his study of Eastern art, religion and philosophy, the vast legacy of his writings and his compassion for the less fortunate as expressed through art. Aron’s note-card sets will be offered for sale at the lecture.
Route 6 tourism map is now available
GALETON, PA.
What are the key sights to see when traveling scenic Route 6 through northern Pennsylvania? A new map of the 400-plus mile highway lists them all and more.
It is available at Pennsylvania highway welcome centers, visitor centers along Route 6, and online at route6.com.
A mile-marker system was placed along Route 6 in 2008, and the map uses this system to direct travelers.
The map also highlights the top historical sites, outdoor recreational activities and scenic vistas and includes a calendar of events.
