Charges dropped against retired Mohawk teacher

NEW CASTLE, Pa. (AP) — Prosecutors in western Pennsylvania have dropped charges against a retired history teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with a student.

The corruption of minors charges filed last month against the retired Mohawk High School teacher were withdrawn by Lawrence County prosecutors on Tuesday.

Police say the circumstances of the case had changed but the defendant’s attorney tells WPXI-TV the woman was trying to extort thousands of dollars from his client.

A phone message left by The Associated Press at the Lawrence County district attorney’s office was not immediately returned early Wednesday.
