Police investigating check-cashing scheme at Boardman Walmart

Boardman police and Walmart officials are investigating a check-cashing scam.

Samantha N. Buxton, 22, and her sister Stephanie D. Buxton, 21, both of Youngstown, are charged with criminal simulation. They had a preliminary hearing Tuesday in Mahoning County Area Court in Boardman.

Police said Boardman Walmart loss-prevention officers reported that beginning in June, five fraudulent company checks were returned to the store as non-existing accounts.

In each case, Walmart officials said the suspects presented company payment checks and identifications and payment was given to all of the suspects, according to reports.

The investigation is ongoing, said Boardman Detective Greg Stepuk.
