YOUNGSTOWN
The Kiwanis Club of Youngstown has had a busy summer so far.
A world-ranked local junior golfer, Brian Terlesky, 11, of Boardman, visited the club recently and entertained members with his stories about golfing around the country and the world.
At the annual Special Olympics Track and Field meet at Austintown Fitch High School, the club volunteered to help. More than 250 kids from 10 counties participated in the final “warm-up” event preceding the Summer Games the next weekend in Columbus.
And last, Covelli Centre Executive Director Eric Ryan talked to the club about the challenges he faces in running the 169,000-square-foot, 7,000-seat facility.
He said he strives to bring the best and most affordable acts to the area.
The Kiwanis club meets for lunch each Friday at noon at the downtown YMCA. Guests are welcome.
The club, which was established in 1916, is celebrating its 95th anniversary this month.
