Women artists win honors as talents are judged at show

YOUNGSTOWN

The 29th annual Women Artists: A Celebration art show, sponsored by the YWCA of Youngstown, showcased the talents of female artists and led to honors for several of them.

More than 119 artworks created by 70 women artists included paintings, drawings, sculpture, fiber, ceramic and metal works.

Serving as juror for the show was Vicky Clark, art gallery director and art historian at Clarion University in Pennsylvania.

At a patrons party July 8, the artists were presented with awards in various categories. Following were those honored:

$225 Women’s Art Committee Award, Tazim Jaffer, “A 1000 Monks,” video.

$100 Margaret Evans Memorial Award, Jo Ann Buzulencia, “Electron,” photo.

$100 MVWS Watermedia Award, Joyce Garvey, “Fishing Trawler at Dock,” mixed media.

$100 Eileen D. Scragg Memorial Award, Dianne K. Martin, “Motion VI,” fiber.

$100 Watercolor Award, Susan Russo, “Beach 1,” watercolor.

$100 YWCA Award, Kathleen Terlecky, “Tribute to Ruby Bridges,” oil.

$100 Youngstown Area Federation of Women’s Clubs, Salli Kowalski, “Inferno,” pastel.

$50 Artists of Mahoning Commons Award, Gail Trunick, “The Dyslexic,” clay/mixed media.

$50 Florence L. Gordon Memorial Clay Award, Sharon Meenachan, “Childhood’s Nightmare,” ceramic.
