Property taxes in Columbiana due Sept. 9

Columbiana County Treasurer Nick Barborak announced that second-half 2010 real estate tax statements have been mailed.

Taxpayers who have not received a statement should call his office. Approximately 44,000 bills were mailed. If your taxes are included in your mortgage payment or if you have already paid for the full year, you will not receive a bill.

The payments must be postmarked or received by the treasurer no later than Sept. 9.

Barborak wants taxpayers to know that, even if they wish to wait until the last minute to pay their taxes, they do not have to make a special trip to the Courthouse. Taxes will be considered timely if the payment is postmarked on or before the due date. The penalty for late payment is 10 percent of the outstanding tax owed.

Tax payments may be made at any Huntington Bank branch in Columbiana County. To take advantage of this service, you must have your statement with you. The bank cannot accept partial payments.
