Hankins drives in 3 as Scrappers win

STATE COLLEGE, PA.

One night after scoring a season-high in runs, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers stayed hot with a 10-3 rout of the State College Scrappers in a New York-Penn League game.

Designated hitter Todd Hankins led the Scrappers attack with three hits, including a double, and three RBIs.

KC Serna added a triple and two singles for Mahoning Valley, while Tony Wolters finished with three singles.

Cody Elliott added a pair of singles and two RBIs for the Scrappers, and Jake Lowery also singled twice.

Starting pitcher Mason Radeke (2-0) picked up the win for the Scrappers. He went the first five innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs. He struck out two.

Cody Allen pitched the next two innings, allowing three hits and no runs, and Drew Rucinski finished up, allowing one run in two innings.

Four players had two hits apiece for the Spikes, including Alex Dickerson, who tripled, and Samuel Gonzalez, who doubled. Wes Freeman added two singles and two RBIs.

Mahoning Valley jumped out to a quick lead, 7-1, after three innings.

In the second inning, Elliott and Lowery had RBI singles, and Jordan Smith made it 4-0 with a RBI groundout.

The Scrappers scored three more times in the third on Hankins’ RBI single. Serna made it 6-1 when he came home on a double play, and Hankins scored on a wild pitch.
