STRUTHERS

Campbell’s Jake Giuriceo and Miguel “Silky Smooth” Gonzalez of Cleveland will highlight the upcoming “Destruction on the Diamond,” a 10-bout card that will take place Aug. 13 at Bob Cene Park in Struthers.

In conjunction with Lights Out Productions, the card will also see the return to the ring by Austintown heavyweight Chris Koval and the showcasing of WBC female light welterweight champion, Mary “Merciless” McGee of Gary, Ind.

“We’ve been diligently working on this card since early March and it is coming together just as we had predicted,” said Mike Cefalde..

“An outdoor show has a special appeal and with Kelly [Pavlik] and Jack’s [Loew] show at the Covelli Centre the week before, boxing will definitely take center stage with back-to-back, action-packed weekends.”

The weekend’s festivities will also include a free youth baseball clinic. There will be a ceremony honoring Youngstown sandlot pioneers like Dr. Raul A. Hernandez, Bob Cene Sr., Bob Jones, Rudy Granito and Mike Goldstone.

Giuriceo (12-0, 3 KOs), whose light welterweight opponent was not finalized at press time, is the main feature while Gonzalez, 18-2 (4 KOs) will meet Tyrone Harris (24-7, 16 KOs) of Lansing, Mich., in the co-main event, also in a light welterweight battle.

Koval (24-7 (18 KOs), a heavyweight who goes by “Special K,” returns to the ring 70 pounds lighter and after a 14-month hiatus to take on James Porter (5-15-2, KO) of Terre Haute, Ind., in what many expect to be a raucous affair.

Ashtabula’s Aaron DuFour (2-1, 2 KOs) goes up against Paul Parker of Toledo in light heavyweight action, while Warren native Nicholas Firtha (19-8) takes on Ross “The Boss” Thompson (27-15, 17 KOs) of Buffalo in another heavyweight matchup.

Parker will be making his professional debut and along with DuFour, are represented by Lights Out Productions.

In a middleweight clash, Cleveland’s Dante Moore (6-0-1, 4 KOs) will try to remain undefeated when he takes on Russ Niggemeyer (2-2, 2 KOs) of Columbus.

Another heavyweight bout will feature Jason “Big Daddy” Massie (6-0, 4 KOs) and Mujaheed Moore (4-5, 3 KOs) of Shaker Heights while Derrick Moss (1-0) of Cleveland, who will be going after his second professional win and Ed “2 Fast 2 Furious” Ochoa (11-2, 10 KOs) are also on the card.

McGee (17-1, 10 KOs), who will meet Kita Watkins on July 30 at the U.S. Steel Yard in Gary, is out to avenge her only loss as a professional when she goes up against Nicole “Notorious” Woods (11-8-2, 3 KOs) in a six-round pairing.
