Glaciers baseball looking for players
The Ohio Glaciers, a national tournament baseball program, is holding tryouts for 2012 teams from 9U through 16U in August. The tryouts will be held at Glacier Field in Struthers.
The Glaciers have a history of nationally-ranked teams with professional instructors like Jack Kucek, a former Major League pitcher. The Glaciers manage both indoor and outdoor facilities, with teams practicing more than 100 hours a year. Players from across Ohio and Pennsylvania have played on Glacier’s teams.

Rousher commits to Miami University
Canfield High football player Jimmy Rousher has verbally committed to Miami of Ohio.
Rousher, who is 6-foot-2 and weighs 260 pounds, is a two-year starter for the Cardinals at tight end and defensive line.
Closest to the pin wins
Area golfers will have nine chances to win a prize during the closest to the pin golf challenge at the Par 3 golf Course at Wick Recreation Area on July 31 from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
The fee to enter is $5.
Canfield’s Bowden takes third
Lori Bowden of Canfield shot 82-77—159 to take third place in the Women’s Ohio State Golf Association Senior Amateur Championship.
The event was held at the par-72 Salem Golf Club and was won by Lynn Thompson of Cincinnati with a 77-78—155.

Catherine Brown wins two crowns
The Canfield Tennis Open — the first open tournament at Canfield Swim & Tennis Club in over 25 years — saw Catherine Brown win two titles in the seven divisions contested.
Brown won close matches in the final three rounds to claim the women’s singles title. Brown, of Canfield, teamed with Christine Kuester, of Sharon, for the women’s doubles crown.
The Canfield Open included 65 players from 15 different cities.
Jeff Sinclair dropped only eight games in four rounds to claim the men’s singles championship. By shutting out three opponents in the 10-under category, nine-year-old Greg Morgione was the youngest winner, while 80-year-old Art See teamed with Rajiv Taneja to win men’s doubles.
Pawan Solanki/Allie Pavlansky were the mixed doubles champs, while David Hofsess won 16-under.
Season tickets on sale for YSU football
Youngstown State football season tickets are on sale.
General admission seats are located in sections 1 and 7 of the west stands.
YSU plays six home games this fall with the opener on Sept. 10.
