Leetonia

State Rep. Craig Newbold of Columbiana, D-1st, will have office hours from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Leetonia Community Public Library, 181 Walnut St.

This is an opportunity for constituents to express any issues or concerns with their representative. Individuals will be required to fill out an information form. Newbold will meet with only one individual at a time, and each individual will have a maximum of 20 minutes to meet, depending on turnout. If there is no one waiting, that time can be extended.

The lawmaker’s office is taking no appointments at this time. He will meet with constituents as they arrive. Appointments are to be made for another date.

Newbold also will have office hours from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at East Palestine Memorial Public Library, 309 N. Market St. For more information, contact Steve Wilson at 614-466-8022.

Town-hall meeting

YOUNGSTOWN

A town-hall meeting to implore Congress to protect Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday at Union Baptist Church, 528 Lincoln Ave., with U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Avon.

The event is sponsored by the Mahoning Valley Organizing Collaborative in partnership with the Service Employees International Union’s Fight for a Fair Economy Campaign, the Ohio Organizing Collaborative and the church. Also expected to attend are state Rep. Bob Hagan of Youngstown, D-60th, and state Sen. Capri Cafaro of Liberty, D-32nd.

Seniors, parents and clergy are urged to attend and ask Brown to commit to protect the interests of senior citizens, disabled people and children.

CLEVELAND

A man at first accused only of armed bank robbery now faces two additional counts of extortion.

Douglas P. Centafanti Jr., 34, of Boardman was federally indicted Wednesday in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. He is accused of threatening a bank teller at First National Bank, 7025 Market St., Boardman, with a handgun and taking more than $9,000 on June 15.

The two new charges stem from Centafanti’s alleged involvement in the robberies of Check Into Cash locations in Boardman onJune 11 and in Austintown on June 13. Police said in both incidences, employees were held at gunpoint.
