Crime-sign thefts

BOARDMAN

Boardman police say the teens accused of taking “United Against Crime” pro-police levy yard signs likely will be given community service as punishment.

Detective Doug Flara said there is “no indication” that signs were taken for anything other than a prank. “It seems like a foolish, childish move,” he said.

Ten teens were caught late Monday on Cathy Ann Drive after a resident called police saying she saw a group of juveniles in a van stealing signs, police said. All 10 were charged with criminal trespass, criminal mischief and receiving stolen property, reports state. Nine were booked on-scene and released to a parent. Joseph Testa, 18, was taken to Boardman police where he was booked and released on a summons. More than 90 signs were recovered from the teens, police said.
