YOUNGSTOWN

Mahoning County property owners will begin receiving their second-half real-estate tax bills in the mail in the coming days, said Treasurer Daniel R. Yemma.

Mailing of tax bills began Wednesday for about 166,000 parcels of property. The deadline to pay without penalty is Aug. 12. Payments postmarked on/or before that date will be recorded as on time.

Property owners who do not receive statements by next Wednesday should call the treasurer’s office at 330-740-2460 to confirm payment amounts or request copies of bills.

The office offers these methods to make tax payments:

Yemma has taken advantage of technology advances by moving toward a “Go Green” paperless system in this year. He encourages taxpayers to take advantage of this free service by viewing the website http://treasurer.mahoningcountyoh.gov. Click onto the attachment, “authorization form” then simply fill it out and return to: Mahoning County Treasurer Daniel R. Yemma, 120 Market St., Youngstown, OH 44503.

Taxpayers can pay online by check or credit card. The office has been successful in negotiating a reduced convenience fee for credit-card payments, Yemma said. Please refer to: http://treasurer.mahoningcountyoh.gov .

Payments can be mailed to Mahoning County Treasurer Daniel R. Yemma, 120 Market St., Youngstown, OH 44503.

People can go to the treasurer’s office on the first floor of the courthouse and make payments. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

About $105 million has been charged to the county tax duplicate. On average, two-thirds of real-estate taxes are returned to local school districts. The remaining funds are shared by countywide voted levies for parks, libraries, children’s services and more, the treasurer said.
