Bank robbery suspect now charged with extortion


CLEVELAND

A man at first accused only of armed bank robbery now faces two additional counts of extortion.

Douglas P. Centafanti Jr., 34, of Boardman was federally indicted Wednesday in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. He is accused of threatening a bank teller at First National Bank, 7025 Market St., Boardman, with a handgun and taking more than $9,000 on June 15.

The two new charges stem from Centafanti’s alleged involvement in the robberies of Check Into Cash locations in Boardman onJune 11 and in Austintown on June 13. Police said in both incidences, employees were held at gunpoint.
