Toledo considers endiing free parking for lunch
TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Toledo may end a decades-old policy of free lunchtime parking at downtown meters.
They don’t have to be fed between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. in Toledo, in a program that’s been around since the 1970s as an incentive for downtown customers. But a city council proposal to do away with the free hours says employees of downtown businesses are the ones taking advantage of the offer.
General manager Floyd Hunter of a central Toledo Jimmy John’s restaurant tells The Blade newspaper that changing the policy is a “horrible” idea. He says it’s hard to get people to come downtown to eat.
He also acknowledges that his employees stay parked at metered spaces during the free period.
