The Association of Chapters of District 2 Order of the Eastern Star hosted an event June 25 at Enzo’s Restaurant honoring Ohio’s Grand Chapter and its officers.

In attendance were Worthy Grand Matron Sue Kerns of Lancaster, Ohio, and Worthy Grand Patron Trevor Sproul of Copley, Ohio.

The evening began with a social hour and light refreshments. Afterward Warren Mayor Michael O’Brien and Mayor-elect Doug Franklin presented the two with a ceremonial plaque representing the keys to the city, and a monetary presentation was given to them by Holly Robinson, president of the association of chapters, for their project of rehabilitation equipment for the Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon, Ohio.

The Order of the Eastern Star is part of the Masonic family. The organization is the largest international, whose members are men and women of many backgrounds.

The organization’s principles are brotherly love, relief and truth. Members believe that God directs them in all they do.

It sponsors many charities in their relief efforts and assists many with college scholarships for both ministers in training and lay people at four state colleges.

Cancer research, the American Heart Association, 32nd-Degree Masonic Learning Centers for dyslexic children, Rainbow Girls, Job’s Daughters and DeMolay are a few that the group assists.

The OES has established and continues to assist with the funding of the Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon.

The facility recently expanded, adding a rehabilitation center.

It is fully accredited and certified and is open to the public.
